What did Jesus do? Did he wait to make good friends or did he teach every opportunity and some did get offended, some to the point they wanted to kill him. All anyone needs to know is that you are interested in them as a human. Sometimes that only takes an invitation to your home for a luncheon, or that you are willing to help them in some way. Jesus healed the sick. People knew he cared and was willing to listen to him. You are one in a million. Good luck. Gwin

As promised, I'll leave my post for you, Liz.
Interesting topic, and one that we all struggle with. Being somewhat of an isolationist, I don't really associate with my neighbors. I'll say hi in passing, but not much more. This is not very "evangelical;" I realize that.
I think the crux of the issue is motive. I don't ever want to be accused of befriending somebody simply for the purpose of "winning a convert." That is manipulative, deceptive and dishonorable. As a friendship develops, however, deeper issues are generally touched on, and at this point I will share my thoughts on any given topic, be that faith, politics or my favorite Transformers. The point is, for a person to "know" me, they must "know" about my faith. It is a huge part of who I am. I don't tell them to win them, but nor do I hide it. If they choose to ask questions, I am happy to oblige, or happy to move on to another topic. At that point, I have shared, and they have the option to pursue or not. Anyway, we will never convert anybody; God does that, we are simply a means by which it happens.
